Free iPad Games: Survival Run with Bear Grylls

Man vs. Wild fans can reconnect with reality TV star Bear Grylls thanks to his new iPad app Survival Run.

Grylls is known for recreating survival scenarios on his popular Discovery Channel TV show. He was let go by the newtwork in March of 2012 after "a continuing contractual dispute." The British TV adventurer also became a popular internet meme after drinking his own urine in 2010.

The new universal iOS app from F84 Games allows users to control Grylls as he is being chased by a relentless grizzly bear. Users must swipe left, right, down or up to avoid random obstacles as they run away from the wild beast. Man vs. Wild fans will enjoy the many Grylls sound bytes included in the game.

There are also seven Bear Grylls characters to unlock, rescue choppers, power paragliders, jetpacks and so on. The game features "high quality 3D graphics", Game Center support, and promises future updates.

iPad Racing Game Makes Doing Cardio Easier

Fit Freeway is a new racing game that you can play while exercising. All you need is an iPad, the app, some exercise equipment (like an exercise bike or elliptical trainer) and something to hold your device while you play. The game works by allowing the user to control the speed of a car by registering how fast they exercise. The user can also steer the vehicle by moving their head left or right. Fit Freeway uses algorithms, motion sensing technology and the iPad's front-facing camera to sense the user's movements. No cables or extra hardware needed.

"We think that FitFreeway is just the start for BitGym. We have ambitious plans to change the way people think about cardio. For too long people have been told to worry about minutes, miles or calories - but really what is important is that people are engaged, have tangible goals, and keep coming back," says Alex Gourley, BitGym's CEO. "Cardio machines are awful at all these things, but with videogames we can change that."

Turn Your iPad Into an Arcade With the New Atari Joystick

It's amazing how Atari games continue to reinvent themselves. The Atari's Greatest Hits app for the iPad is getting a companion called the Atari Arcade: Duo Powered joystick. The new joystick is reminiscent of the popular iCade cabinet shell, but will probably carry a cheaper price tag, and will be carried at retail stores like Walmart and Target.

Atari Games

There isn't much info on the Atari Arcade yet (like when it will be available), but just like the iCade, it allows users to play classic Atari 2600 and arcade games via the Atari Greatest Hits app. The app features classic games like Asteroids and Centipede, and is available for the iPhone or iPad.

Friskies Launches Free iPad Games-- For Cats

As if your cats don't have enough toys, cat food maker Friskies has used the latest in cat behavioral research to create iPad games tailored to your pets. Now cats everywhere can scratch up your iPad cover and leave paw prints on your new Apple tablet in a quest to hunt virtual fish.

iPad Games for Cats

Three games in all have been released in web-app form at the site Games for Cats, which are all essentially variations on a theme. Brightly colored object floats around the iPad screen until the cat touches the object, it then disappears or breaks up into several other objects. The games actually keep score and add points every time an object is successfully batted by your feline friend.

Fling Analog iPad Joystick Now Available in Apple Retail Stores

You may remember the Fling iPad controller revealed at CES 2011 earlier this year. Well the product is here, and not only this but it's available at Apple Stores everywhere. The concept is really simple and has already received rave reviews including Macworld's Best of Show for 2011. The Fling is clear plastic, so it doesn't interrupt the visuals of the game you're playing on the iPad screen. The joystick uses suction cups to attach to the glass above in-game touch control areas, converting them into a real, tactile controller.
