The original Evoland took players through the evolution of video games. Starting as a simple 2D RPG, players could unlock new graphics and technologies until they reached the HD age and a three dimensional world. The sequel, released today to iOS, is described as a "spiritual successor" to the original as players not only travel through time, but also discover new art styles and video game technology.
There wasn't much to complain about Civilization VI on the App Store besides that it didn't come with any extra content. Aspyr Media fixed that today by adding the Poland Civilization and Vikings Scenario Packs as IAPs.
The Polish Pack includes the complete Polish civilization with Jadwiga, Winged Hussar unit, and the Sukiennice building. It also comes Jadwiga's Legacy scenario. The Viking Pack includes three new Natural Wonders, six new City-States with new tile improvements, and the Vikings, Traders, and Raiders! Scenario.
More and more games are going up for pre-order now that Apple has offered developers the option for a few months. Adding pre-orders was a smart move on Apple's part, as it allows fans to order long awaited titles, like Alto's Odyssey, before their official release date. It is also a much better option than the old pre-registration model, and it allows developers to entice new customers with special pre-order prices or other perks.
Here's a brief look at some current games availble for pre-order on the App Store that you may have missed.
Lichtspeer ($1.99 pre-order price, $3.99 regular) Lightspear-throwing simulator from Noodlecake Studios. Features more than 60 levels set in an ancient germanic future, 10 upgradeable "lichtpower," 6 boss battles, achievements and leaderboards. Expected release date: March 1
Toronto-based developer Snowman has announced that the sequel to Alto's Adventure will be available for the iPad, iPhone and Apple TV on Feb. 22. Alto's Odyssey will continue the adventures of the characters in the popular endless-runner.
The game was originally set to launch last summer before being delayed so Snowman could deliver players the game that they "deserved" by building things "right." After the slight delay, Odyssey is now available for pre-order on the App Store.
Raw Fury's 2D "metroidvania" platformer, Dandara, is now available on almost every available platform, including the Nintendo Switch, Steam and the Apple App Store. It is another premium title priced at $14.99, but based on critic reviews it is worth every penny.
The iOS version features unique touch controls as you defy gravity in the rotating world called Salt. You play as the heroine named Dandara who bounces around the ceiling and walls like Spider-Man. Dandara's mission is to save Salt -- which is on the brink of collapse after its free spirited citizens have became oppressed.
The delayed Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition is now available for pre-order on the Apple App Store. Square Enix originally announced that the console title would make its way to mobile devices back in November last year, but it never materialized. However, today the RPG popped up on the App Store for pre-order with an expected Feb 9, 2018 release date. There is also a planned release for Windows listed for early 2018.
Jam City has released a teaser trailer for the new mobile RPG, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery. The game will be available for both iOS and Android in the spring after making its official debut during “A Celebration of Harry Potter" at Universal Studios Orlando in late January.
Hogwarts Mystery is a story-driven RPG where players can create and play as their own student of the wizarding school. Players can choose their own path as they complete magical classes at Hogwarts, and build their skills to help them solve mysteries and go on adventures. Players can unlock new locations, spells and other magical abilities as they progress through the game.
Today is the last day you can buy Sid Meier's Civilization VI for the iPad for only $30. After today the full price of the game will double to $60. Civilization VI for the iPad is a full port of the popular strategy title. It is not a mobile version, or some kind of spinoff. It is the same game you would play on the Mac or PC, and it has been receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews from both critics and players.
