Absinthe Jailbreak Updated With iPad 2,4 Support

The Chronic Dev Team has released Absinthe 2.0.4 with iPad 2,4 support. The new iPad 2 was originally not supported due to its unique 32nm A5 chip. The iPad 2,4 now joins the original iPad, original iPad 2 and iPad 3 on the list of supported devices.

The Chronic Dev Team's new untethered Absinthe tool also works with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S running iOS 5.1.1, and the iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation).

The new iPad, along with the original iPad and older iPad 2 models can now be jailbroken on iOS 5.1.1 using Absinthe 2.0. Support for the revised iPad 2 with the 32nm A5 chip (iPad2,4) is on the way, as the Chronic Dev Team continues work on the software.

In the meantime, the iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak is great news for owners of compatible iPads, including the iPad 3 with Retina display. Using Absinthe is a simple process that requires just a few minutes, a USB dock connector, and a Windows, Mac OS X or Linux computer. As always, we recommend backing up your iPad with iTunes before jailbreaking.

iPad 3 Jailbreak Only a Few Days Away [iOS 5.1.1]

Pod2g made a big announcement one day before the Hack In The Box security conference in Amsterdam is set to kick off. The iOS hacker announced that it's only a matter of days until an untethered iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak is released.

Previously pod2g tweeted "something big’s going to happen at HITB related to jailbreaking." He also linked to the Chronic Dev Team's Twitter page in the same tweet. The Dev Team will be creating the bundled tool for the jailbreak when it's released.

Read on for the complete list of supported devices. iPhone 3GS and iPod 3G owners should be happy to notice that both devices have been added to the supported section.

iPad 3 Jailbreak Coming Soon!

It looks like an untethered iPad 3 jailbreak should be right around the corner. Pod2g released a video (see below) showing a jailbroken new iPad running iOS 5.1. On Friday, the IOS hacker confirmed that his new jailbreak also works with iOS 5.1.1, and should work with all iOS devices inculding the iPad 3 and iPhone 4S.

Pod2g tweeted: "OK, tested on an iPad 3,1 running 5.1.1. Jailbroken untethered. :-) No issue."

It's unknown when the new jailbreak will be released, but when it's, pod2g said it will be a bundled tool created by the Chronic Dev Team.

iPad 3 Already Running Cydia on iOS 5.1.1

iPad hacker i0n1c has been teasing us with images of jailbroken iPads running iOS 5.1 since March, and he continues to amaze by releasing an image of his iPad 3 running Cydia on iOS 5.1.1 only a few hours after its release.

iPad Jailbreak

This doesn't necessarily mean an iPad 3 jailbreak will be made public in the near future, especially since i0n1c seems reluctant to share. However, the rest of the jailbreaking community is busy working on a new exploit. So there is still hope. Apple released iOS 5.1.1 a few days after pod2g announced that his iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 was finally untethered, and i0n1c's photo proves that iOS 5.1.1 can be broken.
