Hot on the heels of the release for Hitman GO, Square Enix has released a new trailer entitled, Cherry Blossom, for Final Fantasy Agito. Agito is a free-to-play RPG game designed specifically for smartphones and tablets. The game is directed by Hajime Tabata and it takes place in the same universe as the 2011 PSP Final Fantasy game Type-0.
The trailer posted above is for the Japanese release arriving in May. The video shows off the game's battle system, maps and equipment.
Agito is a lot like Type-0, where players can customize the appearance and weapons of their own character, and earn experience by exploring and completing missions. The game will also feature an evolving story line based on decisions players make during the game.
It is still unknown if Square Enix plans to release the game outside of Japan, but it is hard to believe the company will ignore the huge buzz the game is receiving in the US.
It is also unknown if the game's "free-to-play" status will hinder game play with timers or in-app purchases. I guess we will find out for sure in May when Final Fantasy Agito is finally released in Japan.
